Vertigo in Kids is no Childs play

Do you suffer from dizziness and ringing in the ears that can ruin your day, week, or even month? If so you may have a condition known as Vertigo which affects 5-10% of the American public. It is also becoming much more of a common problem in children according to a new study.

The Impact of Vertigo in Children

It is reported that at least 5% of American children from the ages of 3-17 have some sort of dizziness or balance related problem, one out of every 20 children. These facts come as a result of a study performed on 11,000 children according to annual National Health Interview Survey.

A child may described a spinning sensation that is typical of vertigo but they may also experience dizziness and other ways such as light headedness, poor balance and coordination, fainting and frequent falls. It is important to be observant as 32% children went undiagnosed. The number rose to 59.6% in children who experience any major health conditions like neurological diseases, concussions, or metabolic conditions.¹

This is extremely concerning to me as someone who specializes in helping people with dizziness and vertigo relief. If this problem is not addressed as a child it develops into more serious impairment as an adult. Often people find me as a last resort after many other relief options have failed and they want to achieve natural vertigo relief.

How Upper Cervical Chiropractic Helps Children with Vertigo

As an upper cervical chiropractor I pay special attention to the neck, especially the first bone in the spine known as the Atlas (C1). It is quite common that people who suffer from vertigo have a misaligned Atlas bone. When the atlas is not in its proper position it affects the ears which control balance through the brain and nervous system. Through a careful and detailed process I determine the exact position of the atlas and can correct through a period of care. Studies have shown that patients with vertigo have not only reduced their symptoms but have even had complete resolution.²
