Hello Spring! And allergies, sinus problems, headaches...
It's finally here! Spring brings sunshine and longer days, warmer weather, and color starting to peek through.
As much as we are grateful for the change of scenery, some of us dread this season because it also means allergies, sinus pressure, headaches, and respiratory problems.
According to an article by Tracy Miller of the New York Daily news (published March 20, 2014), "Allergists are predicting a sneezy spring in the Northeast because of the long, cold winter and higher-than-average snowfall.
"We're going to get a bumper crop of pollen starting, I would bet, next week," said Dr. Paul Ehrlich, an allergy/asthma/immunology expert at Mount Sinai Beth Israel. "Because the weather has been so cold, we sort of picture trees sitting with their hands on their hips saying 'alright, we'll wait, and then we'll pour on the pollen.'"
"The cold weather actually makes it better for trees to pollinate," agreed Dr. Timothy Mainardi of Hudson Allergy Tribeca. "We had a tremendous amount of snow this year, and all that moisture is currently being drunk up by the trees."
Some people will experience a slight delay in onset of their spring allergies because the cold weather has kept trees like birch, oak and maple from releasing their pollen, Ehrlich said."
So what do we do?
Here are some helpful tips to keep allergies, sinus headaches and respiratory problems in check this spring:
1. Don't drag the pollen inside. Take your shoes off at the door as much as possible so less pollen makes its way in your house.
2. Close your windows and dust overhead fans. As tempting as it is to fling open the windows, it's better to keep them shut so as to not allow allergens to enter through the window. If you use a ceiling fan, be sure to give it a good spring cleaning so you don't end up circulating more dust through the room.
3. Put some elbow grease into your spring cleaning. Wash down your walls, get rid of clutter, clean all sheets and comforters, dust the blinds and baseboards, everywhere that you can reach and clean thoroughly. This will help to reduce the dust and potential allergens in your home. If you are unable to do this, hire a professional company to help.
4. Keep your immune system as strong and healthy as possible by eating fresh, clean, nutrient rich foods. (Ask Dr. Besso about the It Works! Greens supplement to help keep your immune system strong, or click here for more information.)
5. Be aware of the pollen count in your area before you plan your outdoor activities. Look it up online by zip code for the day's pollen count at pollen.com.
6. Try sipping on a warm beverage to help ease congestion and keep you hydrated.
7. Know your sinus pressure triggers and do your best to avoid them. This sounds obvious, but sometimes we need a reminder!
8. Replace your air filters in your air conditioner in the house and car to help keep allergens at bay.
9. GET ADJUSTED! By keeping your nervous system functioning properly with regular chiropractic visits, we help the body to better defend against outside forces trying to break in and break down various systems. Call Besso Clinic today for a Spring adjustment! 330.689.1234
SUCCESS STORY
Dr. Besso has helped many patients who suffer with allergies, sinus pressure and infections, pressure headaches, and various conditions related to springtime issues. Jane F. had the following to say about her experience with NUCCA relief at Besso Clinic:
"I have been plagued with chronic bronchitis, severe sinus infections, and adult asthma for six years! These issues caused fatigue, sleep troubles, decreased memory and ultimately depression. I went to four experts with no help. I was taking steroids, inhalers, and breathing relief care during the day and sometimes during the night. I was also on antibiotic regimens every other month.
I had asked God to please find me an answer! That’s when my cousin called and told me about Upper Cervical Care. I told her I was out of options so I’d go.
In November I walked into The Besso Clinic of Chiropractic and this was my answer from God! It is such a gentle procedure with powerful results! I am now free of: Steroids, antibiotics, albuterol, and inhalers. I can even walk on the treadmill for 30 minutes daily, whereas before I couldn’t even walk up my stairs without stopping and catching my breath!
Since my breathing is better, fatigue, and sleeplessness are almost a thing of the past!!!
Thank you God! Thank you Dr.Besso & Staff."
