Upper Cervical Chiropractic Care: A Promising Solution For Neck Pain In Stow

In addition to these at-home remedies we mentioned above, physical stress can be the underlying reason for neck pain apart from emotional stress. Physical stress can lead to upper cervical misalignment, bringing various symptoms and health concerns, including neck pain.

Upper chiropractic care can help correct a misalignment in the upper cervical spine, which is a promising relief from neck pain. Upper cervical chiropractors focus on aligning the bones in the upper part of the spine, the area closest to the head and neck. When these bones shift out of alignment, they can pressure the nerves in the area, leading to muscle tension, inflammation, headaches, and neck pain.

By aligning these bones and taking pressure off the nerves, upper cervical chiropractors like Dr. Besso can provide lasting relief from even the most chronic cases of neck pain. If you want to have your spine alignment checked, you can book an appointment by using this online contact form. This natural method is known to provide lasting relief. It works wonders for many people, especially those who previously sustained a neck or head trauma.

neck pain relief in StowA person’s overall wellness hinges on a healthy neural and spinal system. Therefore, it is important to take care of your spine for a happy and pain-free life. But how many people do you genuinely know who put a great deal of care and attention into their spine? I’m guessing not a lot.

Due to ignorance, countless Americans suffer from various discomforts and disorders that arise from their neglected spines; one of the most widespread disorders from this condition is neck pain. Approximately 13% of adults in the United States experience a kind of neck issue in their lifetime; still, not many are aware and therefore are not getting the treatment their bodies need.

Local Expert’s Tips for Natural Neck Pain Relief in Stow

In our quest to improve spinal care awareness for healthier and more productive days, we have put together a list that can be easily followed and incorporated into one’s lifestyle to aid and prevent spinal damage and further neck pains.

Mind your posture

Our postures have a significant impact on our overall functionality and health. Whether standing, sitting, or lying down, there is a proper way of doing it that is not harming your body. While doing typical day-to-day activities, minding your posture can help you dodge neck pain and even backache.

Exercise regularly

Exercising allows the body to stretch and increase its motion tolerance and range. It also strengthens muscles and improves one’s posture, which is excellent in fending off neck pains. The exercises don’t have to be heavy to benefit from them. Simple activities such as brisk walking, neck and shoulder rolls, stretching, and yoga give just as much help and improvement.

Manage your screen time

People’s attachment to gadgets and computers such as mobile phones, laptops, and tablets –whether for work or recreational purposes – affects our bodies and health more than we know. Excessive screen time damages our vision and encourages terrible posture in the cervical spine, which is a major contributor to all kinds of neck pain.

Next time you catch yourself captivated by your gadget of choice, slouching and stretching your neck forward to level yourself with the screen, restrain yourself. Consciously straighten your back, and instead of your body, adjust your gadget’s position to avoid unnecessary strain on your neck and spine.

Use headphones or a speaker when receiving calls

Another gadget-related habit that causes strain on the neck and further misalignment on one’s spine is cradling the phone on your shoulder during a call. More often than not, it forces the neck to bend in an awkward position to keep the phone in place, especially if you are multitasking while on the phone. The best trick to prevent this is using headphones or putting the caller on speaker. Doing so will decrease the pressure and potential degeneration of the discs around your neck.

Eat properly and stay hydrated

Proper diet and hydration give the body the nutrition to properly function and recover from mild aches. So, make it a habit to fill your system with healthy food and drink at least eight glasses of water a day.

Try to sleep on your back

The way you sleep can also cause misalignment on your cervical spine, leading to neck pain. Sleeping on your back may be the best position to prevent any damage to your spine as it promotes better alignment, eliminating unnecessary pressure on your neck.

Consider chiropractic care

Many people assume that chiropractic is mainly for athletes or those recovering from traumatic and debilitating accidents; this could not be further from the truth. Chiropractic is applicable for everyone suffering from mild to severe pain in all the body parts connected to the spine. The practice has various procedures to address problems in different spinal column parts.

In the case of persistent neck pain, the most effective method is Upper Cervical Chiropractic. As it is designed to target problems in the cervical spine, chiropractors greatly recommend it for neck pain relief in Stow and around the globe.

Upper cervical chiropractors use precise and gentle procedures to realign your spine by the millimeter. This ensures the proper repositioning of the problematic neck vertebrae, which are the cause of your neck pain. It may sound scary or even impossible, but it isn’t; with the help of X-rays, scans, and various equipment that measures structural imbalances, upper cervical chiropractors have been helping patients with the same predicament as you for many years.

Try Chiropractic for Neck Pain Relief in Stow

Of all the natural and non-invasive care for neck pain, Upper Cervical Chiropractic is the most effective and lasting solution. Aside from resolving the primary concern of a misaligned spine, which is causing a pinched nerve or crick that interferes with day-to-day activities, it also helps in correcting and restoring the body’s holistic function – opening the doors to a more fulfilling and pain-free life.

If you are experiencing pains in your neck and are considering chiropractic for long-term relief, feel free to reach out to us at Besso Clinic of Chiropractic. It’s early in the morning, and you try to turn your neck to the side. To your horror, you realize you have stiff neck muscles. The worse part is that you can’t move your head without grimacing because of the pain.

Well, you’re not the only one. More than a quarter of adult Americans experience neck pain. Every neck pain chiropractor in Stow welcomes hundreds to thousands of patients with neck pain each year.

Sometimes, the pain subsides after a while. However, others note that their discomfort stays a bit longer, causing debilitating effects. Good thing you can try doing a few neck stretching exercises to get rid of the pain.

Simple Neck Stretching Exercises

Neck stretching is, without a doubt, one of the most underestimated and underrated exercises. Unknown to many, doing regular neck stretches can lead to numerous benefits such as:

If you haven’t been doing neck exercises until today, we suggest checking the list of examples below.

1. Initial stretching

Before initiating any movement, we suggest doing a few rounds of gentle stretches. This will help you loosen up your muscles and avoid straining your neck joints. Ideally, you should spend around 30 seconds to a full minute before trying the rest of the neck exercises below.

To learn more about the connection between head and neck injuries and neck pain download our complimentary e-book Simple and Extremely Effective Ways to Stop your Lingering Neck Pain by clicking the image below.

2. Side-to-side neck bending

Otherwise known as lateral neck flexion, this specific exercise involves relaxing the shoulders and back muscles. Then, you slowly move your head from one side to the next. You will need to hold each position for around five to ten seconds and resume the neutral position before flexing to the other side. You may repeat this neck exercise up to 15 times.

Alternatively, you can modify the movements and hold the bending position for up to 20 seconds for each side of your neck. Then, you may repeat this set up to five times.

3. Shoulder rolls

Shoulder rolls help strengthen your upper back, shoulder, and neck muscles. This simple movement also allows you to improve your body posture, minimizing strain on your achy upper body.

To do this exercise, you will need to stand or sit upright with your core muscles tightened. Then, pull your shoulders down before you shrug them up towards your ears. Be extra careful not to hunch your back or protruding your neck.

Once you reach the highest point, squeeze your shoulder blades to pull your back muscles upwards. Then, you can gradually relax your muscles to resume a neutral position. Repeat this set of movements about 10 to 15 times with a 30 seconds break for each interval.

4. Neck retraction

If you have started seeing a neck pain chiropractor in Stow, it’s also a good idea to include cervical retraction into your workout routine. Many patients diagnosed with spinal arthritis find neck retraction helpful in reducing the pain they experience.

Similar to the exercises above, performing cervical retraction is also quite simple. You can do this in several ways. One would be in a prone or stomach lying position. Here are the steps:

You can also do the same movements while standing or sitting on a chair. Feel free to repeat it up to five times and hold the position for about 10 seconds. You can do it up to 10 times every hour to see improvements in your pain.

5. Upper trapezius stretch

Your trapezius muscles run from your skull to your upper cervical (neck) bones. They take charge of controlling all kinds of movements – from holding your phone between your ears and shoulders to taking control of the steering wheel.

This is why it’s crucial to include the upper trapezius stretch in your workout exercises. Without a properly functioning or overly tight trapezius muscle, you become prone to developing injuries and experiencing pain.

Here’s how you can do this exercise:

Neck Pain Chiropractor in Stow Your Partner in Seeking Lasting Relief

Besides performing the easy neck and shoulder exercises listed above, you can also seek assistance from a neck pain chiropractor in Stow. Typically, an upper cervical chiropractic procedure involves assessing neck misalignment, which may be the key factor that triggered the onset of your health problems.

Once your upper cervical doctor has the measurements, you can begin receiving customized neck chiropractic adjustments to help you restore your spinal health. It’s a slow and gentle process that many patients with chronic neck pain use to alleviate their symptoms.

Whether you’re an aging folk, someone in their early 20s-30s, or even a teenager or a child, you can certainly find hope with upper cervical care. You can use this remedy with other neck pain relief options like the exercises above. It’s natural and holistic, helping you improve your symptoms and take advantage of various health benefits.

Concussion, Neck Pain, Neck Injury, Concussions are a common occurrence in many sports and recreational activities that affect 1.6-3.8 million people in the United States.1 Concussions can happen quickly and often go undetected with little or no symptoms, until they manifest as larger problems years later.

Concussions pose a major challenge to health care providers due their intricate nature. Concussions are also known as Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) which happens when the brain moves inside the skull, typically caused by some sort of trauma. Symptoms may be obvious such as nausea, fatigue, and headaches; however, some signs are very small and go unnoticed.

A major concern at the moment is concussions in sports, both amateur and professional. Identifying a concussion after a hard hit is challenging as the markers may not develop until days later. It is common for sports teams and players to “tough it out” to win a game. This risks losing long-term health and stability.

Youth sports have perhaps the highest risk to have long-lasting negative effects as a result of a concussion. The developing brain of any child is more vulnerable to concussions. After the first concussion, the chance of getting a second or third concussion increases by 150%. The standard in on-field concussion screening misses an estimated 40% of concussions, and 50% of high school-age athletes did not self-report concussions. A direct blow to the head does not need to occur for a concussion to take place. A whiplash injury from a blow to the body can cause a concussion. It is time to take a different look at concussion diagnosis and relief to get to the cause of the issue.

Concussion Specialist Dr. Geoff Besso is helping patients get natural relief from concussions in Stow, Ohio. Dr Besso is a specially trained Upper Cervical Chiropractor who deals with the Atlas Bone (C1 vertebra) as it relates to the brain and nervous system function. Clinical studies have shown that when the Atlas bone under the skull is misaligned, it affects the fluid that delivers oxygen and also provides protection to the brain, one of the main side effects of concussions.

When the Atlas is restored to its proper position by an Upper Cervical Chiropractic adjustment that fluid flow is restored, and brain function can return more quickly.2 Concussions and related symptoms can heal at a faster rate when the brain properly receives the appropriate nutrients and oxygen.

A Case of Multiple Sclerosis

Multiple Sclerosis, MS, Whiplash, Neck InjuryOne of the biggest topics of discussion among experts who research Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is that of the correlation of head and neck injuries to MS symptoms. In 1996, a former police officer was awarded $820,875 in damages by a court. The jury determined he sustained whiplash in a car accident while on duty, in which his vehicle overturned, that led to Multiple Sclerosis.

While one may think that his symptoms did not start until years after his accident, the 49 yr old man began to show signs of MS with a week after his accident. Testimonies from expert witnesses of neurologists testified they had seen other cases of whiplash that progressed into Multiple Sclerosis within weeks after they sustained whiplash.

One Expert's MS Witness

Though, according to Dr. Charles Poser of the Harvard Medical School, people who sustain whiplash are only susceptible to developing MS if the whiplash triggers an underlying condition. He said of the patient that he or she, “might well have lived a normal life but for the injuries he [or she] sustained.” Dr. Poser witness so many cases of patients whose whiplash had triggered underlying MS that he also stated, “there were hundreds of such cases. Too many to be caused by chance.” It's difficult to ignore the evidence, and that's just what the jury couldn't do.

In the end, the judge said of all of the evidence and the testimonies of expert witnesses that they, “accepted the historical, anecdotal, and experimental evidence supported the proposition that a causative factor in some cases [of MS].” The judge said of the testimonies of the expert witnesses who had seen cases in which whiplash injuries turned into Multiple Sclerosis that, “these circumstances are far too strong to be put down mere chance.”

After all of the Multiple-Sclerosis Evidence

Though, even with all of the evidence, it is still difficult to determine if the possibility of a person sustaining whiplash could lead to Multiple Sclerosis. If you have been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and have a history of head and neck injuries it is very important that you have a thorough evaluation by an upper cervical expert. These chiropractors have unique training in the upper neck and how it relates to the function of the brainstem. Upper cervical experts are uniquely qualified to evaluate the upper neck and make any necessary corrections to the alignment in that area.

Vertigo, Dizzy, Meniere, Neck PainMeniere's disease is categorized as episodic vertigo, fluctuating hearing loss and tinnitus affecting between 4.3 to 15.3 of every 100,000 people.1

Currently there a few ways to treat this disease ranging from medications, injections, or even surgery.3  Dr. Geoff Besso specializes in a technique known as NUCCA where he removes pressure placed on the nervous system and successfully helped patients suffering with this disease find relief.  Patients with Meniere's disease are saying this is great news as this form of relief is invasive and safe.

To further understand how Dr. Geoff Besso is successful we focus on an area of the nervous system at the core of the brainstem known as the reticular formation. It is responsible for functions such as regulation of sleep and wakefulness, cardiovascular and respiratory control.  More importantly, the reticular formation is responsible for the organization of eye movements and coordination of limb movements.  The reticular formation along with a structure called the Vestibular Nuclei provide information to the spinal cord that maintain posture. 2  These areas receive information from the brain which is gathered from your eyes, inner ear, joints, and muscles to allow movement.  If this information is inadequate due to a possible misalignment of the cervical spine the result may be vertigo or dizziness. A study published in the Journal of Vertebral Subluxation showed improvement in 60 patients with vertigo. 4  Dr. Besso is a trained upper cervical doctor who is successfully helping patients across Ohio.

orange barrelsIt's that time of year: orange barrel season!

The barrels let us know there is a construction site ahead, to drive cautiously, and to look out for the broken areas in the road.  As much as we dread this time of year because it tends to slow down our commute, we know the construction is needed to smooth the roads, fill potholes, and make our driving experience easier and more fluid.

Ever feel like you need some orange barrels in your own life?  Many of our Patients have felt the same way.  They come in to our office on the verge of having surgery, another shot of medication, or another procedure done because they are so eager to get some relief.

What they often find with NUCCA is that they can avoid the surgery, more medication, and yet another procedure.  And they can get the relief they are in need of naturally.

The Dr of the future quote

Read what one of our Patients had to say about her experience with NUCCA care at Besso Clinic.

"I am so glad that I chose to get relief care at the Besso Clinic of Chiropractic. I had tried a few other things before coming, but being a hair dresser, surgery wasn’t an option. My friend told me about Dr. Besso, and I had never tried chiropractic in the past. To be honest, I was afraid that the adjustment would be painful. Dr. Besso put me right at ease, letting me know it was non-invasive and very gentle. Every adjustment I’ve had has been pain free with huge benefits.

All of my neck, shoulder, hand, and arm pain that I have had for 3-5 years is gone.  My hip pain has improved greatly, and as an added bonus my blood sugar has improved. My quality of life is definitely better all the way around, and my energy level has improved as well.

I was skeptical at first, as I am sure most are. I can tell you now, that I do definitely recommend the Besso Clinic and I will try to get the word out about NUCCA relief for pain. I so appreciate being treated with professionalism and kindness by all staff and Doctors."
